ASJ continues to celebrate 10 years of everything sparkling

In September 2019, Alyssa Smith Jewellery celebrated 10 years of everything sparkling, and announced a year ahead of special editions, limited collections, one-off designs, and the ‘renaissance’ of many of our older designs from the past 10 years!
So far, we’ve announced many gorgeous arrivals as part of our 10-year celebrations, and as a new year is upon us, we’ve got another 9 months of special editions to come!
We are kick starting 2020 by bringing back a gorgeous collection, originally released way back in 2014. A collection designed with ‘love’ at the centre of its inspiration, our favourite two pieces from our original ‘Allegra’ collection have made a return this January, especially for Valentines 2020!

Originally made in both sterling silver and rose gold, our necklace, and matching drop earrings have made a welcome return
This collection features a solid sterling silver heart which has tiny hearts cut out of the design…each tiny heart snuggles perfectly into the next heart, inside the main design.
Back for a limited time only, these beautiful hearts will come packaged in one of our limited-edition collector boxes, along with a 10-year collector card, Oh- and let’s not forget the sprinkling of biodegradable sparkles in the box, either!

Some of our designs which we have brought back from the ‘vintage’ ASJ days as part of our 10 year celebrations have been adapted and changed to give them a new life and a new story, but for this collection, we have brought them back exactly as our earlier fans will remember and love – Because, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it- as they say!

Perfect as a special gift for someone you love, or as a treat to yourself- These solid sterling silver masterpieces need no introduction and will set your outfits off perfectly. Whether you have somewhere special to go, or not, this collection will have you feeling and looking spectacular every single day!
Exactly as we first designed them, prices for our solid sterling silver Allegra collection start at £70, with free UK delivery and international shipping- whilst available.

Lots of love, Alyssa x

We've got a very special new arrival for you

The latest addition to our brilliant 10-year anniversary jewellery collection, and a rather spectacular one, we must say!
Back in 2011, Alyssa designed her very first squirrel design, releasing it early 2012 - ASJ had only been around for just over 3 years at the time, and our designs were still in their early days, but this squirrel had a lovely purple amethyst set into his eye... one of Alyssa's all-time favourite gemstones! This design left us in 2014, and we haven't re-introduced another squirrel into our collections since!
But today changes everything!
This Autumn 2019, we have taken our original squirrel from 2012, who wore his lonely little heart on his sleeve ... quite literally! (always looking for love, this little squirrel was!!) and we are very happy to say he's now met his soulmate (It's only taken him 7 years!)
Together, squirrel Nutkin (yep, that's his name) and his lovely squirrel lady, share a nut- scampering over trees and branches all around the forests!
In fact, this duo could almost take on the world! Squirrels are very special to team Alyssa- being based in Hertfordshire, our black squirrels that are spotted in our trees and gardens are actually quite sacred, and even have a bit of a celebrity status! Well loved by everyone in Hertfordshire, we all consider ourselves very lucky to have these chaps on our doorsteps, surrounding sparkle towers!
Our brand-new design is a re-imagined take on our original design from 2012... and it's crazy to think how much our designs have evolved over the years! Squirrel Nutkin has been wanting to make a comeback for so long, he just hadn't found his soul mate until now!

We are so pleased to announce that we have created just 30 of these very special celebratory designs for sale this Autumn, and each squirrel necklace will come complete with a 10-year anniversary collector card too! As part of our 10-year celebratory designs, which are running from September 2019 until September 2020, we will be bringing you special one-off designs, limited runs such as this beautiful design, and re-imagined older collections too!
This adorable necklace has been perfectly hand-cut, polished super shiny and then hand threaded onto his sparkling chain before we pop him in his lovely box, with added biodegradable sparkles – to send off to his forever home! So sweet! This lovely Nutkin squirrel necklace is perfect for that special anniversary gift, an ideal treat for yourself, or even the perfect keepsake from bride to groom
Come and have a look below at how this beautiful piece was made and be the first to get your hands on your very own loved up squirrel!

We really hope you will love our latest arrival to our jewellery family, and the story behind both the original design, and our re-imagined 2019 design too! Remember that Alyssa has made just 30 of this design, so once they have all sold, we won't be making this exact design again... That is the beauty of limited runs, hey!

Lots of love

Creators of miniature masterpieces in precious metals

A special announcement for our wonderful fans and customers, from Team Alyssa

Alyssa Smith Jewellery is celebrating its 10th year trading this September- Hooray!

This really is such a huge milestone for any business, brand or organisation, we will all agree!
Started in the middle of a recession, some labelled Alyssa crazy for leaving a full time job which she had only been at for a few short weeks within the jewellery industry. Fresh from university with zero business knowledge, Alyssa started what we know and love today as ‘Alyssa Smith Jewellery’, or ASJ for short. With nothing but a bedroom floor for a workshop, and a few basic tools- Alyssa’s first designs were sold in little jewellery shops in her local town, and after a few months, she installed a jewellers work bench, complete with a full working blow torch at the end of her bed! With no funds for a proper office space, she was willing to do what it took to get her little empire off the ground and make her mark in the jewellery world! We have come such a long way, and it feels like only yesterday we were moving into our first offices, taking on our first members of team alyssa, and having our first websites built. Some of Alyssa’s proudest moments still include the day she first saw her name printed on her own personalised, branded ribbons to tie up our lovely jewellery with, our first overseas order, which came in after just a few months of opening, and winning endless amounts of awards, even in the early days. We are so grateful to all of our customers and friends for their support – and have such a huge, and exciting announcement to make! We’ve hardly been able to contain our excitement… but it has been so worth all of the hard work we have put into this!
For the next 12 months, starting from 19th September 2019, we will be running a series of limited edition designs to commemorate our 10th Anniversary as a great British jewellery brand. This will consist of exciting and individual one off pieces, along with designs which we will be re-introducing into our collections, carefully hand picked from a huge array of designs we have created from the past 10 years.
Some of these designs will make a come back exactly as our earlier fans and followers will remember them – designs we like to call ‘vintage ASJ’- but there is also a twist! (Of course!)
Over the past few months, we have carefully chosen some of our old favourites to make a return, but re-imagined! This means older designs which have been altered, changed and given a new lease of life for these new limited edition collections.

Each 10 year celebratory design will come complete with a lovely 10 year ASJ collector card, and will be beautifully packaged in a branded packaging, with biodegradable sparkles for that added extra touch!
We have created a very special collection on our website which will feature all of our 10 year celebratory designs – some will be gone in a flash, and others will remain for a little longer.
Stay tuned over the next 12 months where we will be staggering the launches of these wonderful pieces – along with stories, ‘in the workshop making’, and inspirations behind the releases. We hope you will manage to get your sparkly hands on something special and thank you again for helping us reach a whole 10 years! Here’s to another 10!
Lots of love
Everyone at team alyssa x

Good enough for the Daily Mail's 'Luxe List' for the Monaco GP!? That's good enough for us!

We're soooo excited to see our incredible Smith and Perry sterling silver flag studs featuring in the Daily Mail 'Luxe List' for perfect wears for the Monaco Grand Prix 2019!

On Sunday 19th May 2019, the Daily Mail’s newest magazine, the 'check in and upgrade' mag, featured our lovely little flag studs as the perfect accessory to show your support at the prestigious, upcoming Monaco grand prix - and we couldn't agree more!
These adorable flag studs are perfectly made in sterling silver and are part of our incredible flag collection which you can find here. They are even waved like a real flag blowing in the wind, and the chequered bits are tiny cut out holes- incredible to get this amount of detail into something so small- We’re really proud of this incredible design, and our flags are available as a whole collection- including necklaces, bracelets, charms and drop earrings too! These wonderful studs sold out extremely fast when they were launched last year and are still exceeding popular to this day, too! The perfect choice for our motorsports fans jewellery wardrobe

Whether you've had your eye on these for a while, and have been waiting to snap them up, or you've only just discovered them... now might be the perfect time to pick them up!

Looking for other fabulous pieces to wear over the motorsport season? Check out our amazing motorsport collection here; we even have incredible Monaco racetrack pieces! Thanks for reading and catching up with team alyssa!

A Royal-ly Splendid Arrival

A new Royal Prince deserves a Royal-ly great arrival!

There is a new arrival… and nothing less than a Royal Baby!!! Hoooray! … And as the very first pictures start to emerge of our new little Prince- Archie, we’ve got a rather new special arrival of our very own too!!
In January, (like every year) we began brain storming new jewellery ideas for the year ahead, and I've always wanted to make a piece of jewellery specifically FOR a new mum, as a congratulations gift, or push present (so they are called in the USA...Meghan will know all about these- you can also read about them in another of our blogs!)
I really wanted to create something special which she (mum) could treat herself to, and cherish and treasure... Or something perfect which you could buy your very best friend, sister, partner or colleague... A masterpiece which means a great deal to both the giver, and the recipient. I believe that jewellery really is like special treasure, and when you pick something for a loved one or yourself, the meaning behind why you have chosen this piece really will create memories for years to come.

But where do babies even come from?
A stork is such a traditional new baby symbol... haven't we all been told at some point in our lives that we came from a stork? And mums, have you told your own child they he/she was delivered by a stork in a little wrapped up bundle!? Of course, you have!

I've loved this story ever since I began my fascination with the film Dumbo when I was just a wee dot myself. I wanted to time the launch of our special new collection with the birth of the new royal baby....and thank god we managed it!  It was a push to get this masterpiece designed, prototyped and perfected in just a few months, but just as the baby arrived, and a few hours before his name was announced- we managed to launch our own new arrival!
I’ve decided to call this gorgeous piece, and collection ‘Bundle of Joy’ – this was before Prince Harry announced to the media that he had his own little bundle of joy- and once I saw this announced, I just KNEW I had given our collection of gorgeous Stork jewellery the right, and perfect name!
Photo credit to the Mail Online

A little bit about the design work in this special piece
This incredible solid sterling silver stork is totally made in 3dimensional form, and I've actually used the wings from our Pegasus flying horse as inspiration for the wing detail on this piece.
The bundle of joy in the storks beak even has a little knot in it...which was a really important element of the design for me to get in there!!! I remember in the Disney film, Dumbo- seeing that little knot being untied to reveal the sweetest baby elephant… and this scene stayed in my memories forever!
I've kept the detail in his legs too (he even has little backwards bendy knee detail!) even though this was really difficult on such a small scale- and you can add a special birthstone to this piece if you like too!
We have 13 colours available, ranging from pink and blue, to clear neutral and greens and reds!

The collection details
I am beyond excited to announce the arrival of our Bundle of Joy stork collection as a necklace, charm and also a bracelet... All designed to be worn close to your heart every day.
This collection even makes a gorgeous keepsake piece for your own child- an heirloom… Just an idea…Food for thought! You can even pass yours down to your future generations, which is exactly what I will intend to do with mine when the time comes to start my own family

Find our stork collection here, and fall in love-

I really hope you will think it's as perfect as I do for someone dear and near to you!
Lots of love

It’s official! Our Silverstone Jewellery License has been extended!

We are beyond delighted to officially be able to announce that our jewellery license with the one and only ‘Silverstone UK’ has been extended! (Feb 2019) We know that all our customers will be very happy about this seeing as it has been one of our best-selling race track pieces of all time. In fact, this racetrack was the first in our collection back in ‘the old days’!

The popularity of our beautiful Silverstone jewellery makes it so hard to believe that the collection actually started in Alyssa’s workshop (nothing but a mere outside garage at the time!) with Alyssa making each and every one by hand using her tiny saw! The lead times on these pieces were huge, but our wonderful customers didn’t mind one bit! After this newspaper article in the Mirror was published, they became SUPER popular, making it difficult for Alyssa to keep up with the demand! This is when our special licence with Silverstone was granted- and has been renewed several times since.

Click the image below to read the article online from the Mirror, which shaped our motorsports collection

Our Silverstone collection now consists of so many different pieces such as; charms (with or without a sparkly stone at the start/finish line), men’s engraved cufflinks, necklaces tracing the track outline, for both her and for him (you can even get one with a sparkly stone set into the start/finish line on the ladies version), tiny studs for your ears, and most recently- a brand new bracelet!
We also have occasional limited-edition pieces such as our 3D helmets with the Silverstone logo engraved on the back (in miniature form!) and Silverstone track necklaces with gorgeous precious gemstones set in the start/finish line! Our current limited edition features a lovely blue Topaz.

Fun fact time - Did you know, we donate a select amount of proceeds from every one of our Silverstone jewellery pieces sold to Promise Dreams Childrens Charity (which Suzi Perry is a patron of. If you’re interested, or want to see how the money has helped children all around the UK, you can find out more here) – So, not only are you owning a piece of history with so many memories by loving our Silverstone jewellery, but you’re also helping to grant wishes for terminally and seriously ill children around the UK too!
Check out our motorsport collections to see which other pieces we give select proceeds to and find out how you can help such a great cause -
We are so happy to officially have our special license extended with Silverstone - and thank you to everyone for your continued support, purchasing our gorgeous Motorsports collections! We will see you at Silverstone for this years British Grand Prix- it’s going to be a good one!!!
Why not check out our remarkable motorsport collections for her and for him. There is something here for all motorsport lovers!

Lots of love and sparkles,
Team Alyssa xx

Stop press! We’ve made it into a weekly glossy!

We’re so excited to be able to share this with you all, after weeks (but what seems like years!) of having to keep it a secret!

We hope you will be jumping for joy for us, just as much as we are- it’s been such a brilliant opportunity- and to share it with you guys is such a proud moment!

Over the last few weeks, we’ve been keeping a secret from you all – but the cat is finally out of the bag and we are now able to talk about it properly! It’s so difficult to keep such exciting secrets, especially ones like this, but it was so worth it!

This January, we were absolutely thrilled and honoured to have been given the project of making the jewellery for celeb couple, singer Gareth Gates and Coronation Street’s finest – Faye Brookes engagement party! Their engagement was first announced with an exclusive feature in OK magazine a few weeks ago, followed by another exclusive 6-page spread covering their high-profile engagement party, which took place during the last weekend in January.
Myself (Alyssa) and my talented little team were tasked with the project of making 25 beautiful Angel Feather necklaces in rose gold for Faye and Gareth’s engagement party guests, and we also made a beautiful matching Angel Feather bracelet and necklace for Faye herself – as a little something extra.  Faye has really petite wrists, so we made it for her in our 7 inch size, which is our smallest size- but as you know, we’re always happy to make our bracelets as small or large as you need them- that’s the beauty of made to order jewellery!

Not only did the couple (and all of their celeb friends) love them – but the beautiful Faye even wore the bracelet for the OK mag photoshoot – Which we can’t even believe, a week on!

There our bracelet is, sparkling away in her photographs – which she chose to wear over the Cartier bracelet (move over Cartier!) which matched Gareth’s. We are beyond chuffed, stunned and so pleasantly shocked that not only was the bracelet visible in all of the photos, but we even got our own little paragraph in the magazine too! We’re so pleased this wasn’t cut out- hehe! The couple go on to explaining why our angel feather jewellery was perfect for them- because they call each other ‘my angel’- and because of this, they made a brilliant memoir for their special guests too.

Gareth was the first to own one of our special angel feathers, which had had specially made on a longer men’s chain for himself – so it seemed right that Faye would soon own a matching set too! It was one of most enjoyable projects that we’ve carried out of recent times, and having got to know the couple recently, they are really beautiful both inside and out.

We actually only had 1 day to make the packaging this entire project, because of the ways the days fell and due to other commitments– and our office turned into even more of an elves workshop than it normally is on this day! We had a huge production line of angel feathers being made, polished, assembled, packaged and ribbons perfectly tied around the boxes– Plus, on top of that, we hand wrote and signed tiny notes for each guest, which were rolled up by hand and tied with string – it was so fiddly, and was a rush against time to get them all complete. By the time our postman arrived to collect the day’s post to send out around the world, we were still on the last leg of packaging them, and he even helped us box up the last few! Good old royal mail postie, hey!
The guests at the party absolutely loved the bracelets- and we heard they went down a storm.  We’ve seen a huge surge in popularity of our (already popular!) angel feather collection since the magazine coverage.

We were so pleased that on top of this, our local newspaper also picked up on the story- and made it front page news! It was another rush to get the office ready for another photoshoot, this time, holding OK magazine!

We really hope you will enjoy these little snippets we’ve shared with you, and if you’d like to see our beautiful angel feather collection, click here -

Want to see something SUPER SPARKLY?

Then come this way…

Let’s start by having a little think about the most sparkly thing you have ever seen… Got that? Okay, now multiply that by about 100000 and that’s how sparkly our stunning glittering enamel unicorns are! If you haven’t seen these before, they are one of team Alyssa’s absolute favourites, and when you wear them in the sunshine, they really come alive!
As we are sure you will all know, at Alyssa Smith Jewellery we just LOVE unicorns. We love to get lost in childhood memories, and anything glittery and sparkling is welcomed into our lives in any way. We have a very majestic and beautiful unicorn head in our reception area on the wall at Sparkle Towers HQ- which makes our postman laugh every day when they come to collect our parcels to send all over the world. We have unicorn stamps, stickers, rubbers, hot water bottles- You name it, we most probably have it!
So when we designed this spectacular piece, we were thinking ‘what would make our unicorn loving customers go “WOW I NEED THAT?”’. We already had two unicorns in our collection, but we wanted to make something really unique, and something we had never done before.
And what better than a silver unicorn packed full of glitter?! Many of you have adored our glitter unicorns since their launch last year, and they have flown (quite literally) out of our workshop and onto your charm bracelets, or safely around your neck for you to show off and adore!
Since we first started writing this blog (ages ago now, but we were so busy we never got round to finishing it!) we’ve since launched a second unicorn, packed full of another colour of glitter.  Our first was so popular, we wanted to try something else, and- our new one has gone down a storm too!

“But how did you get this glitter inside the jewellery?” we hear you say! Well, here is the story of how…And until now, this has been a question we’ve never given the answer to!
Team Alyssa decided to sit down to business (as we always do!) to plan our new unicorn- wanting to make sure that you, our customers, would absolutely adore it, but we just didn’t know where to start! We thought long and hard- throwing ideas round and filling up our sketch book like we usually do with new designs, and somehow came up with one of our best ideas yet… A UNICORN HEAD! But how were we going to give it the WOW-factor? WITH GLITTER OF COURSE!
We searched high and low to try and find the most gleaming glitter possible; looking for colour inspiration from sparkly paper and glitter glues from craft shops, nail glitter and make up, to facepaint and even spray paint! We may have strayed along the way with looking at sparkly shoes and clothes, but only for research reasons - of course!
Once we had found some good contenders, it was time to test all of them (it’s a hard life playing with glitter, don’t you know?)

Until one day, we liaised with our own personal glitter fairy, and she created us the most PERFECT and SHIMMERING glitter of all! Once we had come up with something which could be mixed with a base coat enamel in a lighter shade than the glitter (a little bit like gel nails, we suppose!) we could encapsulate it inside, and then fill it with a top coat of clear enamel! The heart below was the result of our testing, and we had finally come up with something nearly perfect

Soon after this, our first batch of purple glittery unicorns were ready and flying off to their new homes. We like to keep our jewellery very exclusive and make things in limited runs, so although our purple glitter unicorns have now come to an end, you are still able to buy our brand new, baby pink holographic glitter unicorn charms and necklaces which are new for 2019. These are exactly the same as our original purple ones, but instead, are  filled with the most beautiful colour ever- it reminds us of real fairy dust, actually!
Just like the original Stardust the glitter unicorn charms and necklaces, there is only a limited amount of these too– so don’t miss out on these wonderful pieces if you would like to add some extra sparkle to your lives this year

We hope that you love these gorgeous pieces just as much as we have enjoyed creating them for you
Lots of Love

The 10 Year Challenge

Then and now- The challenge sweeping the social media world right now!

Over the years, we have seen many social media trends come and go (from the dull and questionable, to the damn right insane!) We’ve witnessed everything from the floss dance to the ice bucket challenge, the mannequin challenge and people putting their pets faces through a hole in a slice of bread! And the ridiculous tide pod challenge – Just why? At team Alyssa, we look at, and question why anyone would do some of these things, but the 10-year challenge that swept the nation over the last month is definitely something we can get on board with!

The 10-year challenge is actually quite significant to both Alyssa herself, and to the brand Alyssa Smith Jewellery too... Whilst reflecting on the last 10 years and sifting through photo after photo to see how far we have come during this time (and it’s soooo far!) we realised- Alyssa Smith Jewellery is actually 10 years old THIS YEAR!

10 years ago this year, Alyssa had just graduated from university (this nearly didn't happen at one stage, but that's another story for another day!) ... and within months, she had managed to get her incredible jewellery published in magazines- both online and in print too! How incredible is that?!

She even managed to win over well-known celebrities from the singer, Jamelia to Caroline Flack and Sheridan Smith, and they wore some stunning bespoke pieces created by Alyssa, as well as the 'Tweetie Bird’ which was Alyssa's signature piece- putting her on the jewellery map worldwide. The Tweetie bird was like no other jewellery on the market- taking inspiration from Twitter for its theme!

It's strange to think that 10 years ago, Alyssa was working on her bedroom floor on her own, at her parents’ house- she called this her workshop, and this is where it all began (with the occasional help from Mummy & Daddy Sparkles, of course- they still help now!) Alyssa's workbench was one of the important things she purchased with the £500 she had to start her business- the rest of her start-up funds went on tools and raw materials to create her first designs. Alyssa started selling her jewellery on stalls at craft markets and fayres in her spare time, whilst working the rest of the time in a gift shop to earn extra money. The photo below was posted 5 years ago on our social media pages, when Alyssa Smith Jewellery was 5 years old- showing a stall Alyssa had rented in Old Spittalfields Market when she was just starting up. It was minus 4 outside (it was an outside market!) and she didn’t sell one thing- not even enough to make the money back for the stand- but she never gave up on her dream

Against all the odds (and believe us, there were a LOT of odds along the way!) we not only survived, but managed to grow an incredible, 5-star reputation and brand... It all seems so long ago now to think how it was started on a bedroom floor- and fast-forward 10 years to right now, and we have a huge office which is big enough for sack races in our royal mail delivery/collection sacks – tried and tested - yoga balls (essential office purchases) and god knows what else we decide to bring in (we even have a shoe rack at work!) and this office houses our fabulous team of 4.

A lot has changed in the last 10 years but one thing that will never change is Alyssa dressing her pets up in adorable outfits! ;-)

Not only has the company grown (and become Sparkle Towers HQ) Alyssa has also forged a fabulous partnership with Suzi Perry, secured exclusive deals with Silverstone, RetroGP (our Hesketh collection) and Brands Hatch (to name but a few), plus customers all over the world wear her jewellery - EVEN in South Korea... That's right! South Korea!

Yes...Alyssa is still selling on stalls...but now they are stunning showcases at the British Grand Prix and new for 2019- the Goodwood Festival of Speed! (WOW!).

What an incredible journey over 10 years we have had- let’s hope we have another incredible 10 years to come. We have had such incredible support from our fans and customers, and some have been there right from the beginning- we could name so many, but we wouldn't want to breach that boring GRPR word, would we! ;-)

How long have you been on this journey with Alyssa? We would love to hear from you about how you discovered us- you can join in with the chitter chatter over on our social media pages. Also, keep an eye out on social media and newsletters for our 10 year anniversary posts throughout the year to see how far we have come (with your amazing support) and what we accomplish throughout the years to come! If you’re not already signed up to our newsletters, you can do so at the bottom of our website homepage

…Until the next social media craze- goodbye!

Lots of love,

Team Alyssa x

Supporting Women in Motorsport!

Alyssa Smith Jewellery- Supporting Women in Motorsport!

Women supporting women- such an uplifting and positive initiative to be a part of. With so much negativity in the world, sometimes it can feel like criticising each other takes over uplifting each other.
We absolutely love to support women in the motorsports industry.  It’s tough to complete in such a male dominated world, but we are pleased to see so many up and coming females setting a fabulous example to girls everywhere, not just in racing its self, but all other areas of motorsports too!
To have some hands-on involvement with these talented women, we’ve decided to share success stories from a select few of our favourite females in motorsports on a regular basis across our social media platforms so that we, (and you!) can follow their stories, and keep up with the happenings as they race through the season. We’re also thrilled that these women are also advocates for our own motorsports jewellery too! You can often see them sporting our jewellery on their own social media pages- which we’re thrilled about
Let us introduce you to the exceptional drivers who we are already supporting, and we hope you will join us in supporting them too- Even if you’re not into your motorsports, it’s great to see what women all over the world are achieving and helping to inspire the next generation of girls too! We are all about this and can’t stress enough how important it is to continue to inspire young people today- this is something really close to Alyssa’s heart.
Abbi Pulling
First up is Abbi Pulling, who we have been supporting/sponsoring since early 2018. We are really proud to be championing such a young and incredibly talented female racing driver.
Abbi began her racing career in 2012, at the age of just 8 years old!  She has gained a list of titles since then and has been Super One British Karting Champion two years running in 2017 and 2018 – the first junior to win back this title…Wow! In 2018, we watched Abbi make her car racing debut, taking part in 3 rounds of the Ginetta Junior Championship, which was on tv too.
On the 12th January 2019, Abbi won the GoldStars Junior Award for the 2018 Season, which was awarded by The British Women Racing Drivers' Club. One of our Flag necklaces was part of her prize haul (and believe us, she scooped some fantastic prizes!) Alyssa was really pleased to present Abbi with her prize, as the awards were held at the 2019 Autosport International show. This was the first time Alyssa and Abbi had actually met in person after months of speaking, and we have been so excited to see Abbi show off our logo on her custom-made racing suit, and on her cars too! Abbi can often be seen sporting our moving piston necklace, and lots of our charms on her bracelet, which she never takes off.

Tatiana Calderon
Next up is Tatiana Calderon, who is definitely one to watch, and seems to be popping up everywhere these days! She also owns one of our Barcelona Catalunya sterling silver track necklaces and we hope she will treasure it- you can often see her wearing it on her social feeds too- it’s so sparkly!
Tatiana started racing go-karts at the age of nine, and was the first woman to win the national karting championships in Colombia and the United States…  Incredible! (Alyssa has never even been in a go kart!) At the age of 17, Tatiana progressed to car racing and has been doing amazing things ever since. Here’s a brief rundown of some of her very many highlights…
In 2011 she took two podiums at the Star Mazda Championship.
In 2014, Tatiana had a victory in the Florida Winter Series.
In the 2015–16 MRF Challenge Formula 2000 Championship, Tatiana was runner-up.
There is only one woman who has ever stood up on a British F3 International class podium, and that is Tatiana!  She is also the only woman to lead a lap in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship.
Since 2016 she has competed in the GP3 Series and is currently Test Drives for the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team, which makes her the first Latin-American woman to drive a Formula 1 car… So many firsts here!!!

If you don't follow Tatiana already, you definitely should! She has a huge following and some brilliant content!

Jamie Chadwick
More British talent over here with Jamie! We are so thrilled that British motor racing driver, Jamie Chadwick also owns one of our incredible race track necklaces! In August 2018, Jamie became the first female driver in history to win a BRDC British Formula 3 Championship race at Brands Hatch (we love brands hatch!) and it makes perfect sense that Jamie would own our Smith & Perry Brands Hatch track necklace, to commemorate this!
As with Abbi and Tatiana, Jamie started out in Karting in 2010 at the young age of 11.  She went on to achieve several wins and podiums in the Junior series at club level.
Jamie won the 2013 Ginetta Junior Scholarship (beating 60 other young racers) which funded her 2013 season. In 2015, she moved to the Senior categories and, along with team mate Ross Gunn, secured the British GT Championship GT4 title in their first year – making her the youngest driver and first female to win a British GT Championship.  In 2017, Jamie switched to single-seaters and competed in the British F3 Championship – she finished a very respectable 9th in this first year.
This year, Jamie has moved over to Formula E cars for the NIO team. We are excited to see Jamie’s journey this year- which brings us to the thinking that we should really start designing a miniature silver Formula E car to go with the rest of our racing car collection, don’t you think!?

We will be sharing Jamie's successes, so do give her a follow-

Nathalie McGloin
Our next racer is BEYOND inspirational – prepared to be amazed! Nathalie McGloin is the first female with a spinal cord injury to be granted both a racing and a rally licence in the UK. Not only is Nathalie the only disabled driver in her championship she is also the only women! Having broken her neck in a car crash when she was 16, Nathalie is completely paralysed from the chest down yet she competes against able bodied men- When you put it like that, if that doesn’t inspire you, nothing will!

Her specially adapted car means she is at no real disadvantage to her fellow racers. Driving a Cayman S in various events, Nathalie’s car has been fitted with radial hand controls which operate on a push forward to brake, push down to accelerate mechanism. She often speaks of how at just aged 16, a car took nearly everything from her but how incredibly, through racing, a car has given nearly everything she lost back.
Nathalie’s relationship with her car is an unlikely love story of defeat, triumph and ultimately freedom. Wow. Nathalie is just about to take part in her very first rally at Donnington and we cannot wait to follow her progress- of course, we will be sharing this on our social media pages too!
After only three short years in the sport, in 2018 Nathalie was appointed President of the FIA Disability and Accessibility Commission (responsible for the governing body’s global policies on disabled participation in motorsport) and is also a Dare to be Different Ambassador.
Nathalie owns one of our stunning Silverstone pendants and is often seen wearing it on her social media pages and in press.
Nathalie’s attitude is simple, and actually so similar to Alyssa’s-
If you want something badly enough, you always find a way to achieve it.
With her attitude of never giving up, she hopes to inspire others to
* ditch the excuses
* really believe in yourself
* mark your clear pathway to success.
We completely agree with this moto – anything really is possible if you put your mind to it! Go Nathalie, we are so happy to be profiling you and helping spread the news about your talents and success throughout the season!

Jade Edwards
Our final racer is Jade Edwards, another British racer- this time, sportscars! Jade is from a family of racers and began her racing career in 2006, in the Ginetta Junior championship. Just 15 at the time, she finished 9th in the championship!
A really interesting fact about Jade is that she often races with or competes against her sister! Nothing wrong with a bit of sibling rivalry, hey!

In 2008, Jade moved to the Senior series and shared her sisters MG ZR for the SportMaxx Cup.  In 2012, she finished 37th in the Max5 Championship, including two 3rd places, plus nine more top 10’s!

In 2014, Jade and her sister raced together in the Aston Martin GT4 Challenge at Donington, and won their race, which was a female first for the championship! We think it’s time Jade sported one of our Donington tracks, don’t you?
When Jade isn’t racing, she works within the motorsport industry as a driving instructor, in PR, and as a tyre technician too. She also took part in ITV’s motorsport game show, Drive, in 2016, where she was a driving instructor to Johnny Vegas. We bet that was fun! (And we would rather Jade than us!)

More recently in 2017 and 2018, Jade has been racing in the Clio Cup, securing funding for this via social media! Investment and sponsorship are so important to drivers, and they work tirelessly to secure it for each season.  Jade is the proud owner of one of our stunning Flag bracelets too- The flag was our very first piece of motorsports jewellery that we ever made for the Smith and Perry collection, and has remained one of our most popular pieces to this day!
We will be following Jade’s career too why don’t you find her on social media and show your support too…

Dare to be Different – D2BD
Off the track, Jamie ,Tatiana and Nathalie are Ambassadors for the Dare to be different initiative.
This recognises and supports women in the motorsports industry- from drivers, to engineers and also broadcasters. The initiative wants to highlight female role models to new generations of girls starting out in the industry- Well, they sound just like us then don’t they! The scheme is a joint venture between Susie Wolff and the Motor Sports Association. We are thrilled to be teaming up with D2BD this year, so keep an eye on their social media to find out just how we’re getting on board!

Promise Dreams Children Charity

We just wanted to say a huge thank you to all of our customers for your continued support

Here at Alyssa Smith Jewellery, not only do we create sparkly miniature masterpieces, help our lovely customers with any questions you may have AND make you laugh with all our crazy antics and drama filled mishaps; we also try to give back to those in need.
In 2013, Alyssa partnered up with motorsports and gadget show presenter, Suzi Perry in a mission to conquer the motorsports industry (and possibly the world) with their amazingly unique motorsports themed designs. Like nothing else on the market, Smith and Perry wanted to bring the world of motorsports to your daily lives in the form of miniature pieces you could collect and love. When thinking of new creations to add to such a collection; from the tiny waved flag necklace to the race track charms, they also thought of a way that they could help others at the same time.

As some of you may know, Suzi is a patron of a charity in Wolverhampton (her home town!) called Promise Dreams. This is a charity which helps support terminally and seriously ill children and their families through granting them any wishes they may have; from trips out with their families, to medical treatment and even things that will help make their lives more comfortable; and Promise Dreams go above and beyond for those in need.

When discussing the designs back when the collection was first dreamed up, Alyssa and Suzi decided that select proceeds from our Smith and Perry motorsport collection would be donated straight to Promise Dreams to help them continue their support for these children. Throughout the years, we have seen how your purchases for the pieces in our ever-expanding motorsports collection, and our donations have helped so many children and their families.  To keep you all up to date as often as we can, we have created a page on our website that you can find here – which has many different stories about how the money has helped along with just how much money has been raised. You can also follow our new Charity Tuesday initiative on social media, where we will be bringing you the latest updates from Promise Dreams, and ways you too can get involved to help out (if you want!) And remember, that select proceeds from our motorsports jewellery is donated to Promise Dreams, so you’re helping them without even really knowing it, every time you buy a new piece from this collection
One story that really pulled at our heart-strings was about Frank, who is 5 years old and is living with a life-limiting neuro-degenerative illness for which there is no curative treatment. Due to this he is losing his strength and skills meaning he requires more and more support and care. The money raised would help him get a specialist bath that gives him the opportunity to experience something that relaxes his muscles. Currently, Frank is only able to enjoy a massage bath when on a respite stay at his local hospice, so this would make a huge difference to his life.
We are so pleased that our donations are going to such a caring cause and are helping young children live their lives as comfortably and happily as they can.

Promise Dreams isn’t the only charity we have helped raise money for though. Since launching the business in 2010, we have also helped other charities from Save the Children on Christmas Jumper day to Children in Need. We helped raise money by giving a set amount from each order placed on our website on a particular day and donating the funds straight to these charities.
We do our best to help local charities and initiatives as often as possible, and donate everything from gift vouchers, one off pieces, and smaller ‘prizes’ for raffles. Our motorbike necklace raised over £700 for one charity most recently, which is very incredible indeed! These charities include places like our local Garden House Hospice, and other smaller charities too.
We are amazed and grateful for your support for both us and the charities over the years and we can’t wait to raise more money and awareness for them for years to come.
To this date, we have raised just under £14,000 for Promise Dreams- and without your purchases for our motorsports jewellery, this would never have been possible! Keep an eye out over the coming months for even more new releases to our motorsports collections, we’ve got lots of surprises up our sleeves for you!
Lots of love and sparkles,
Team Alyssa x

The Wonderful World of ‘First Editions’ with Alyssa Smith Jewellery

How do you feel when you are told that you are second? You’re second in a race… you’re second in line to notice a brand-new release from your favourite designer… when you read on our website that ‘this piece is from the ‘second batch’ made’… it doesn’t quite have the same ring to it as being ‘first’ in line, or the ‘first to receive’, does it!?

No, it just doesn’t. Especially knowing that you could have had one of the very ‘first’ of something if you had just got there a little, teeeeeny bit sooner?

Now, how does it make you feel when you’re told that you are one of the first? One of the very first people in the world to bagsy special piece… one of the first to touch it… one of the first to BUY IT and WEAR IT!? No one else has anything like this just yet, and you will be one of the FIRST!

That makes you feel much better… right?! (Almost superior, but we won’t tell anyone that bit!) … Do you want to have that feeling all the time? To be able to show off one of the FIRST EVER pieces we made, in the world!?
And here’s the thing- When people tell you how much they love your new piece of jewellery (which, believe us- they will!) … you can then say (in your totally non-superior way!) … ‘Yeah, I got one of the first pieces ever made!’ … Love this feeling!? Then welcome to the world of first editions- this is the one for you!
We LOVE making our customers feel special, and anyone who has ever had a piece of jewellery from Alyssa Smith Jewellery will know that as well as spending a lot of time designing and creating wonderful jewellery for you all, we also pride ourselves on our excellent customer service, and genuinely ENJOY making your day extra sparkly with every parcel that you receive from us. We know what that feeling is like when you’re waiting for the postman (or lady!) to deliver your parcel, complete with added extras (sweeties…sparkles….)  And this is a big part of why we decided to create some wonderful first edition pieces just for you. We don’t offer our first edition pieces with every single piece we make, so you do have to wait for them to come up, but this just makes them even more sought after!

If you have followed the story of Alyssa Smith Jewellery for a while now, then you may remember the piece that started the remarkable ‘first edition’ saga, and took it by storm… Our 3D Hesketh Bear jewellery!
When we launched these incredible little bears back in April 2017, we were completely overwhelmed by how much everyone loved them, and were especially pleased when so many of you told us how excited you were that you managed to grab yourself one from the very first batch we had made- and were looking forward to receiving your mini first edition cards which came with him!

It was at this point that we realised just how much you all loved having a little authentication card to prove that you have a first edition piece.  The care that went into hand writing the product and date on each tiny card was quite time consuming (especially the amount of metallic gold pens we went through!) but the reaction from our customers over them was just incredible!
Thereafter, we decided to add the miniature first edition cards to some of our favourite and most special new designs (begged for by you!) such as Rainbow the baby unicorn, the Iconic Scooter and most recently, our stunning Kiwi bird and prancing horse and many, many more… And you guys seem to LOVE it and we can definitely see why! Like we say though, we don’t launch every single design as a first edition- and sometimes the first editions can range from just 10 available, right up to about 50- and they sell very quickly indeed! Once all of our first editions have gone, we can never issue any more first editions- so if you’re lucky enough to be the owner of one, don’t loose your little collector card!

How to get a first edition card and piece…

Okay, so here’s the low down! For those of you who may not have seen much of our jewellery before or have never managed to get your hands on our gorgeous first edition pieces, this is how it works:
  1. Go to our website if you’re not already on it (why not save it as a favourite whilst you’re at it!? Aren’t we cheeky!)
  2. Type in the first edition piece that you recently saw i.e. Clarence the kiwi into the search bar
  3. Check the title of the jewellery you wish to order to see if it says FIRST EDITION
    • If yes; just add the amazing piece to your basket, go to checkout and place your order
    • If no; then you may have just missed out ☹ but that is okay, because we are always launching new designs based on what you want to see next, so fingers crossed you will get your hands on our next wonderful first edition piece!
  4. Alternatively, if you’re not sure which piece of jewellery you want and want to browse which pieces we currently have as first editions- you can type ‘first edition’ into our website search bar, and all of our current first editions will filter through!
  5. Once you have placed your order, all you need to do it tell EVERYONE that you managed to bag yourself an astonishing first edition piece from Alyssa Smith Jewellery and leave all the hard work to us
It is really that easy… so what are you waiting for? Be one of the first… not second!
Those of you who already have first edition piece(s)… Isn’t the feeling of opening your little box or pouch and reading your miniature first edition card a just the best? Looking at your piece and knowing that you have, in your hands, one of the first ever pieces of this kind?

We hope that you love all your miniature masterpieces from us (first edition or not) and we would love to hear all about how happy your little sparkles make you feel - and of course, the meanings behind why you chose that particular piece- Get in touch with us on social media or via email – we will always do our best to share your story with our other fans and jewellery lovers- what a lovely little community we have built, and we absolutely love having you all as a part of it! 😊

Don’t forget to sparkle!
Lots of love

Can Team Alyssa scoop the trophy- commonly referred to the Oscars of the jewellery world!

The UK Jewellery Awards 2018 are fast approaching- the glittering awards night is taking place on July 4th this year (Alyssa’s dress is at the ready – you may have spotted it on social media!)

We just cannot believe it!! For those outside of the industry and those who have never heard of these prestigious awards, we can only refer to them as the Oscars of the jewellery world. Nominee’s flashing up on the large screens will often include global brands and household names such as Pandora, John Lewis and Swarovski- but this year, there is a little boutique brand who will also be flashing up- and its designer- Alyssa, of Alyssa Smith Jewellery!

This award is one that Alyssa has always wanted (or more accurately, dreamed!) of being considered for- and this year, that has finally come true! We don’t find out if she’s won until July- but I think we can safely say that even making it through to the finals for this one is good enough in our books. Our boutique and niche jewellery brand are one that we are so proud of, and in the great scheme of things- is still a baby. Currently just 8 years old and started right after Alyssa graduated from University- it was a company that was born from nothing but pure passion for creating beautiful jewellery- and not from someone with any previous knowledge of training of business, or how to start or grow a brand. That being said- Alyssa soon learnt to leave her mark on the jewellery industry. Whilst we eagerly await the announcement (and we promise we won’t cry if we don’t win!) we thought this would be a brilliant opportunity to give you a little recap of our journey. This is for both our older customers who have followed our journey for many years and seen us grow, struggle, overcome and expand again, and a little reminder of the years gone past- and for those of you who are new to falling in love with our jewellery and brand! We would love you to see, in a nutshell so to speak, just how far we have come on our journey into the jewellery world until 2018. We still have a long way to go, and so many more designs to share with you all though, so don’t think it ends here!

Make yourself comfy, pour yourself your favourite brew and we shall begin…

Alyssa Smith Jewellery – Where It All Began

Let’s start with a look back to the early days of Alyssa Smith Jewellery and the first successful piece Alyssa designed – the Tweetie bird. This piece was inspired by the Twitter bird logo.
Travel back in time to 2010, social media was only just becoming BIG and Alyssa wanted to make something different, off the wall and totally unique. Something that had not been explored in jewellery before was the theme of social media its self - so this was a brilliant idea- and actually the reason Alyssa managed to break into the jewellery industry. She had made other designs before hand- inspired by nature, animals, you get the idea- but nothing that really stood out as totally UNIQUE.
Now, we must remind you that it wasn’t the exact Twitter bird and just inspired by, but perfect for all social media fans.  Alyssa also launched a series of other social media inspired pieces including a ‘totes’ necklace (which for those of you scratching your head, means Totally!) and a hashtag necklace too. It was the Tweetie design that helped us establish our place in the jewellery industry though with our unique, socially led brand. Celebrities such our very own Suzi Perry, as well as Sheridan Smith, Gail Porter, Dawn O ‘Porter to name but a few (wow!) were all posting photos of themselves in their Tweetie jewellery! Theo Paphitis even has Tweetie cufflinks (more about Theo’s role in ASJ’s later)! Before the Tweetie design was released, Alyssa Smith Jewellery didn’t even have its own website and people would just ring up to place an order and send a cheque. How things have changed!!!
We have since anchored out feet firmly within jewellery industry with our socially inspired, demand driven and unique miniature masterpieces.
Winning countless industry awards and crossing our fingers and toes for another title at the Jewellery Awards this year are just a few of the successes we’ve found along the way! (But hang on, just to let you know- it’s not all singing and dancing- we would be lying if we said we hadn’t had doors slammed in our faces, opportunities taken away from us and things go wrong. So, we would just like to add that for anyone out there who thinks business is all glorious!)
We hope our little business continues to grow in the way it has since 2010!! We may be tempted to bring this original, best-selling design back one day... but we might make many more new pieces instead.

Moving into Motorsports Jewellery

Fast forwarding from 2010, but actually way back in 2013-  Suzi Perry landed the prestigious job as Motorsports TV Broadcaster, which of course she was fantastic at. Suzi (who had worn some of Alyssa’s early designs including the Tweetie bird above) and was a huge support to Alyssa, asked her to make her something F1 inspired for her to wear for her new job - so Alyssa cut around a teeny chequered flag and waved it with pliers to create the VERY FIRST PIECE of motorsports jewellery - and Twitter went absolutely crazy for it!
It was first designed and made just for Suzi to wear on TV, but soon- you all wanted one too (and we can see why)!!! This was the first motorsports themed piece we ever launched and that is how the Smith & Perry collection was born. It really was that simple! There was no great plan or mastermind behind it really- and Alyssa then started making small race tracks and sending them all over the world to Suzi’s hotel for her to wear at each race on TV - the demand for it was huge!

Since then, the collection has grown and grown, with us adding a few new tracks each year and we now have so many race tracks for sale, and even pistons which move on a tiny hinge now! You may also not be aware that we donate proceeds from the sale of each piece from the Smith and Perry collection to Promise Dreams Children’s Charity, which Suzi is patron of. So, every piece you purchase has contributed to the £10,000+ we have already donated to them. Amazing!!! We are so proud of this!
Find our flags here, which are still available in our very original design as the necklace, and now in even SMALLER perfectly engineered designs as charms and earrings too

Theo’s advice was golden

For the next chapter of our wonderful story, we are fast forwarding another 2 years to 2015.

After a meeting with entrepreneur, Theo Paphitis, Alyssa was given a very valuable golden nugget of advice from him (thank you Theo!!!) - He strongly suggested that Alyssa needed to work out how to make her designs in 3D - and give them an extra edge. Feeling that she had hit a brick wall, Alyssa left feeling this was never going to be achievable and that she would never grow the company in the way she wanted.
But not one to give up, she saved as many profits from the business as possible and designed the very first 3D piece - the miniature solid sterling silver crash helmet! This took Facebook (as well as twitter) by storm and we sold out of our first batch in just 1 week (wow!!!). They were signed by Suzi herself on the back on the helmet. We have now expanded the range to include one with a Silverstone logo on the back, driver/rider numbers and a personalisation service to choose your own engraving too! The helmet is still as popular today as it was when it first launched. A firm favourite with you all!

2015 really was a fabulous year for ASJ and actually, a turning point in both terms of design and growth!!! The first 3D design was born, and the creation of Team Alyssa too!... Find out how Nat and Jade joined the team in our next chapter!!!

Team Alyssa was born!!!

Around the same time as Alyssa's incredibly useful meeting with Theo, Natalie and Jade joined Alyssa's magical kingdom- commonly and actually now officially (even by royal mail!) known as Sparkle Towers HQ.
Natalie actually came on to the scene way back in 2011 as a customer (after spotting the Tweetie design on Dawn O ‘Porter) and soon became a walking, talking, sparkly advert for ASJ! Hehe!! 😉

Natalie joined Alyssa in July 2015 to help with social media and general customer enquiries, she knew almost as much about Alyssa’s products as Alyssa herself, so she was the obvious choice when the position became available. She is regularly seen floating around in cyber space helping you with all your queries!! Don't forget to say hi to her next time you visit our social media pages! In the October, Jade joined the team as Apprentice extraordinaire, Alyssa’s PA, and helped with the endless customer enquires too (we all love chatting to you all…by the way!)

Jade is just about to complete level 3 of her apprenticeship and will soon be progressing to management training with Alyssa! Well done Jade! It’s a fantastic achievement whilst working full time too!

Team Alyssa was then born! Team Alyssa are often seen causing mischief and mayhem wherever they go – and you wouldn’t want to see it any other way, right? 😉

Wow!! 2015 really was a fabulous year for ASJ!!! The first 3D design and an expansion of the team!! Thank you to Theo for such valuable advice, which has helped to shape ASJ today!! Alyssa proved that ‘I’m possible’ even when it seemed ‘impossible’ to produce a 3D design.

What year is it now!? Oh! Yes- 3 years later and we’re in 2018 in our penultimate chapter of the story.

Since she can remember, Alyssa has always dreamed being in the same category and awarding body as the large brands such as Pandora, Swarovski and John Lewis - and this year we have made our mark in the jewellery industry with our innovative designs! We can’t wait to find out if we have won at the UK Jewellery Awards this July - but even getting this far is such a huge achievement for a boutique, niche brand such as ours. And wearing a sparkly dress to the awards do is an added bonus!!! 😉

Moving into more 3D designs was a turning point for Alyssa Smith Jewellery. We also designed and added our very first MOVING piece to the collection in 2016, the incredible miniature sterling silver piston, this innovative design has proved very popular with the motorsport community - and also our stunning tyre which actually spins - we love playing with these on our bracelets and we hope you do too.

Following on from this, our first non-motorsports 3D piece arrived!!! A teeny-weeny dinosaur came back from extinction – and we welcomed Dinky the dinosaur into the ASJ family!!! This little guy is still one of our favourites (and yours too) and he has a few more friends to play with now! 😉

Both the motorsports and non-motorsports areas of the brand are expanding and growing with new 3D pieces being added to the collection each year! We now have miniature cars (scaled down replicas of the real thing (incredible!!!), motorbikes, engine parts, an entire zoo of animals and our incredible opening Babushka locket with a secret!! Wow!!

Facing the judges

You may remember that Alyssa attended the judging day on 11th May 2018 for the UK Jewellery Awards, taking with her a selection of our finest miniature masterpieces. These were our most innovative and revolutionary pieces from over the past 12 months – we hope the judges loved them. The requirements for the awards were that we had to take along, 5 pieces that had been designed and made between January 2017 and January 2018.

First up was our miniature Hesketh 308 car, this is a replica of James Hunt’s actual racing car, scaled right down into thumb nail size. We spent MONTHS of designing and product development before they were ready to show to our lovely customers!! Attention to detail is totally our 'thing' when it comes to jewellery- even down to the brush stroke sized gold-plated stripes and miniature 308 logo which has been applied to the base of EVERY....SINGLE....ONE!

Next up was our Hesketh Bear, a 2D yellow bear turned into 3-dimensional perfect form. This tiny bear features an engraved union jack across his helmet, and the base of every bear features the ‘Hesketh by ASJ’ logo. Perfect for those wanting to wear a little piece of history every day!

We also took our incredible piston (our first ever moving piece!!!!) a miniature engine part which isn’t the car itself, but part of the inside. Making something normally not wearable - into a wearable item. And the movement on this piece makes it stand out!!!

Last, but most definitely not least, we took our miniature opening Russian doll locket. This incredible piece opens on the tiniest of hinges to reveal a secret inside! A glittering crystal to represent a birthday, anniversary of special date. Wow!! She is made entirely in sterling silver, with delicate engraved features. She has been a firm favourite with you all since her arrival.

We really hope the judges were blown away with our miniature masterpieces. Fingers, toes and anything else you can think of crossed for a happy ending for Alyssa and the Team - getting to the finals is insane and a huge honour anyway, but we would be over the moon if our designs were considered different enough to win!!! Squeeeee!!!!
Thanks to all our customers for your continued support, it really means the world to us. Our aim is to continue bringing you even more amazing, miniature masterpieces and more collaborations with organisations and brands who we feel you would love. Don’t forget though- we also have a bespoke jewellery service where we can make you a unique design just for yourself (or a loved one!) This is a great way to make something personal for yourself that you can love and keep forever- we just love making sentimental pieces for you and it brings another dimension to our jewellery design!
Lots of love and thank you so much for reading our story so far!

And Now for a little bit of history - Combining the old with the new!

At ASJ we have long been fans of the super cute "babushka dolls" that you are probably already familiar with from your own childhood memories. Probably to put it more accurately, anything collectable, tiny and adorable has got our names all over it!

In case you aren’t too familiar, this little traditional set of wooden dolls decrease in size, and fit one inside another- the smallest one being everyones favourite- right?

Nat’s mum has a set of Russian Dolls which are very traditional in appearance with the well known facial features and colours, and Nat always remembers playing with them as a child; unpacking and packing the little dolls together, and getting to the teeny tiny baby at the centre- which was always her favourite!

Alyssa, on the other hand collected wooden Russian Dolls as a child, but would always take the teeniest, baby doll out and replace that with something else- taking the baby doll out and introducing it as the new baby to her other collection of Sylvanian families!

But there is something we will always remember about these little collectables- and it’s the noise! Who remembers the noise of the screeching wooden dolls as you stacked and unstacked them?

And for a little bit of history- These dolls are also known as Matryoshka dolls, Russian nesting dolls or stacking dolls- The outer layer is traditionally always a Russian woman or Babushka (meaning "grandmother" or "old woman"), dressed in a sarafan, a traditional Russian peasant jumper dress.

The smallest doll is typically a tiny baby, crafted from a single piece of wood- and the smallest baby doll does not open.

These lovely little dolls are thought to symbolise fertility (due to their egg-like shape!) and generally show different generations of a family, starting with the grandmother down to the younger family members- isn’t that just lovely?

According to history, the first Russian doll set was made in 1890, and over time they have become a symbol of Russia itself.

We just love an intricate pattern, so it’s no wonder we are so fascinated with these little dolls-

You’ve probably noticed that these dolls are beautifully decorated in bright colours and patterns- usually in a folk style, with flowers being one of the most traditional themes! Each type of flower represents the city where the dolls are crafted; usually, the flowers are painted as designs on the shawls and aprons of the Babushka. We’ve incorporated this intricate floral design into our tiny, miniature version in sterling silver- using special laser engraving techniques- because if one thing is for sure, we couldn’t miss the beautiful patterns from our own version, could we?

The Babushka doll is a symbol of a strong female matriarch, and traditionally a central figure in the Russian family. As an up and coming British brand with strong and dedicated females at the heart of the company, we thought this new piece was not just a beautiful new addition to our jewellery collection, but that she is also a perfect symbol of #girlpower!

Our new “Babushka” is expertly crafted in sterling silver (as all our pieces are) and she is so tiny! She stands no bigger than a finger nail in size, at just 1.3cm in height – and has a pretty incredible surprise too…. Not the kinder surprise type- this surprise is even better!

Both our Babushka necklace and charm open in the middle, just like the traditional dolls, but on a tiny, weeny secret hinge! You have the option to have our Babushka as plain sterling silver, or you can add a little Swarovski crystal birthstone inside your Babushka to represent a special birthday or anniversary. You can even opt for a rose quartz coloured Swarovski crystal to symbolise the stone of ‘love’!

Only you will know Babushka’s secret!! How special is that!?

We really hope you will love this strong symbolic piece as much as we have enjoyed the project of it’s design and innovation…We think it’s just zoomed straight to the top of our favourites list!!!

Love is in the air- and it’s not all just about mathematics, either!

The infinity symbol is all very pretty, but what does it actually mean?

Gaining popularity over recent years, especially in jewellery and tattoos, it would be easy to mistake this pretty and aesthetically pleasing symbol as a new, trendy arrival on the fashion scene- with everyone seeming to have one in their jewellery wardrobe. But this little symbol is now one of the most worn, and loved jewellery designs that's ever been, and the trend for Infinity jewellery sees no sign of slowing down or losing popularity any time soon!

But the infinity symbol is indeed something which has been used for a very long time, throughout the ages. Various cultures including Indian and Tibetan cultures used the infinity symbol to represent different concepts and ideas. In some cultures, the symbol represented perfection and equilibrium between the male and female gender. It was also used in Celtic knot designs, (you may have seen our Celtic knot earrings)…and Celtic knots (very much like the infinity symbol!) have no beginning and no end. The infinity design is also present in the Celtic cross. If you start looking, you might even see the infinity figure of 8 in many other pieces of artwork, jewellery and designs too- once you know what you're looking for! We have used the infinity symbol in many of our designs over the years, even hiding them inside hearts for some of our pieces.

This being said, the modern-day infinity symbol was discovered by English mathematician John Wallis, in 1655- a mathematical symbol which symbolises a quantity with no end, and something larger than the highest of numbers.

In ancient times, Greek mathematicians and philosophers knew the infinity as the Lemniscate, which means ‘ribbon’. The idea came form The Ouroboros, an ancient symbol depicting a serpent biting its own tail. It was said to represent infinite immortality, continuity, self-fertilization and eternal return.
Today, we appreciate the Infinity symbol as not just a mathematical quantity- but an endless symbol celebrating love or connection. The two circles inter-connect, and represent relationship, and the idea of being together for ever/eternal love. On a non-romantic level, it can also be a connection of everlasting love for other things, such as sister to sister, friend to friend, mother and daughter.

You can pick up a pen or pencil, and draw this symbol in one, swift movement. You will see that it has neither a beginning or an end- so also symbolises the idea of no limitations and infinite possibilities- which we love!

This symbol isn't just perfect for those who wish it to represent love and connection, but also those who believe in infinite possibilities and no limits... Have a think about how the infinity symbol could be personal to you- because it means so much more than love!

View our entire range of infinity jewellery here- including earrings, necklaces, bracelets and gorgeous anklets! We like to keep our infinity designs small, delicate and perfect for every day wear

Lots of love,

Celebrating a 4 times world champion in the sparkliest of ways!

A little message to all our Formula One loving customers and fans… Who remembers back in 2008 when Lewis Hamilton won his first ever Formula One world title? An unforgettable moment in history! 9 years later and trusty Lewis has now been crowned the incredible 4-times Formula One world champion – How time flies right?! And who would have thought it back when Lewis was racing his go karts as a young teen!

At Alyssa Smith Jewellery, we are extremely proud to be world renowned for our motorsports themed jewellery, which consists of everything from expertly crafted miniature race tracks in sterling silver to miniature car parts, including a tiny piston which moves on a hinge! Some of our much-loved pieces include the Silverstone circuit which we have exclusive rights to reproduce in jewellery, our #44 engraved helmet, and something you may not have seen- our gorgeous entwined triple ring necklace and earrings

Did you know, these were originally designed and made to celebrate when Lewis won his 3rd world title!? That’s right, the three rings are completely entwined, featuring two silvers and one rose gold ring, and a gorgeous star in the centre! This collection has been fantastic for our Lewis fans, but is equally as popular with our other non-Formula One loving customers because it really is so beautiful, and goes with pretty much everything!

Over the years, Team Alyssa have been huge supporters of Lewis Hamilton as he was born in the same county as us, and was in the year above Alyssa at school- In fact, Alyssa’s MUM’S claim to fame is that she once made Lewis a Ribena when he popped over to Alyssa’s house when they were teenagers!

We have been very proud to launch all our celebratory pieces for Lewis, which have all been carefully thought out in both meaning, and design. Does anyone else remember the awesome piece that we launched when Lewis won his 2nd world title? For those who don’t remember, or who are relatively new to the world of ASJ, we created a piece that incorporated the Yas Marina track which was the last track that was raced around that year where he was crowned, and the number 44, which was hand carved inside the track! Alyssa hand made 44 of these incredible pieces, and each one came with a special edition card which stated which of the 44 they owned!

You may be asking about his first world title…
“What about when Lewis won his first world championship?” … As this was in 2008, it was before our time! Alyssa Smith Jewellery was only born in 2010, meaning we weren’t able to make a celebratory piece for his first ever title… But we definitely think we have made up for it…
Now for the great reveal…!
You may (if you’ve been stalking our social media)! or may not have seen (if you haven’t…why!?)… our BRAND NEW release of the stunning Yas Marina race track pendant with a gorgeous and unique iridescent mystic topaz set into it, which has a variation of colours from blue to purple in different lights! For those who are unsure what the symbolisation is for the stone, as the last race for this year is in November and at Yas Marina, the stone that represents the November month is a Topaz.
We couldn’t just use any topaz though could we? This is a very special commemorative and celebratory piece, so we have searched high and low for a Topaz to match this special occasion, and we think you will agree- this stone is just PERFECT!

But here’s the thing, we will only be making 10 of these special edition pieces, all of which will be hand-made to order, for each customer! This means that you will need to allow for some time for these to be made, but remember, once these 10 are gone, we will not be making anymore! These spectacular pieces will also come with a miniature first edition card numbered from 1-10.  What number will you get?
If you do happen to miss out (because these are already selling fast!) then please do feel free to contact us (your favourite jewellery elves!) via email or on Facebook for information on our bespoke service. Also, if you were looking to have a different stone set (maybe your birthstone or a stone representing an important month to you) then let us know and we will give you all the details for this
Enjoy our very special new addition to ASJ, and have a wonderful day!
Lots of love,
#TeamAlyssa x

Deep in the Heart of Herts is where the magic happens!

A glimpse behind the scenes at Alyssa Smith Jewellery! Come and see inside our world and our magical workshop of a place that we like to call Sparkle Towers! - By Alyssa Smith

Side car, Sidecar

And deep inside the heart of the countryside is where the magic happens on a daily basis!
The sparkly elves from Hertfordshires Best Retailer 2017; Alyssa Smith Jewellery practice their workshop skills all year round (elves are for life you see, not just for Christmas!)

We spend our days and nights turning ideas, innovative concepts and customers popular requests (you all know who you are!) into hand drawn sketches consisting of good old fashioned pen or pencil, on paper! And yes, you did read the right- days AND nights! I have even been known to wake up in the night with an idea which simply cannot wait until morning to be written down- so I’ve ended up drawing basic concepts, ideas and stories onto whatever I have to hand at that time. The latest ‘ideas book’ was the side of my specsavers contact lens box as it was the only thing I had close by with a big enough surface area to take my random doodles! Even our Jade is now at it, and has even been known to get her ideas book out during a DATE (I know..a DATE!) and sketch something out before she forgets. Wonder if she saw him again… Chuckle chuckle!
So back to the elves (us). Once our designs are sketched properly (about a million times) and the concept is clear and precise, the little sparkly elves wave their magic wands and turn these hand drawn sketches and concepts into miniature, exquisite and collectable masterpieces in precious metals! If only it was as quick as waving a magic wand though- sometimes the development and prototyping stage for each piece can take months- I think the longest time frame our designs have been in development stage is around 11 months. The piece which took the longest to make was our incredible 3 dimensional helmet necklace- as seen on tv presenter Suzi Perry

This piece was our VERY FIRST 3 dimensional design, and getting it just right (wearable, affordable, durable, looking just SO!) took ages! Other designs which have taken extra long to design and prototype was our first origami piece, the incredible crane- as scaling down something normally made in paper, with such a complexity of folds, and making it in sterling silver was really hard- but worth it! Our spinning tyre and motorbike took ages too. The detail inside the wheel on both of these items was incredibly hard to master, but we’re so pleased to say that all of these items are our best sellers, so the saying ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day’ certainly applies to our designs too!
So if you’ve ever wondered how our ideas are born, nurtured and then turned into our beloved ‘borrower’ sized pieces, then pull up a chair, make yourself a nice brew, and feast your eyes on these awesome photos from behind the scenes at #teamalyssa’s amazing workshop!
The first time we ever shared these ‘behind the scenes’ photoboards was in a newsletter to our club Alyssa members in May 2017, but as time has gone on, we thought it would be lovely to write a blog so those of you who missed the newsletter could also see a little bit of the behind the scenes action!
Now, whether you’re into your Motorsports, like many of our customers- or you’re not into your Motorsports (also like many of our customers!) … there is no doubt about it that you will enjoy seeing the design process, and how our designs come to life. We’re going to share with you the design process for one of our popular motorsports themed pieces- the sidecar!
This same process is present throughout all of our designs, and we hope this blog post will give you a small insight into our jewellery, what we get up to every week (when we’re not drinking coffee, being silly and eating the sweets that were supposed to go in all of your packages!) Hopefully after you’ve read this, it will even also add a new dimension to your love for your favourite little jewellery company!

First things first. The concept! Without a concept or an idea, you of course have no product!

Our initial inspiration has always, and will always come from our wonderful customers and their requests and suggestions....which is then translated into pen on paper as rough designs.  This is of course after extensive research into each subject matter, legalities, whether it would work or not, whether it’s already ‘been done’, and even perhaps if the idea is past its sell by date! (to put it bluntly!)! At this stage, we will also decide how big (or should we say, SMALL!) our new creation should be! This is super duper important, because if something is made too big, it becomes clunky, clumsy, unwearable and potentially very expensive. If it’s too small, we risk losing important detail to the intricate design, and sometimes the detail is too important to be missed!

Look and look again! Revisions of the designs are always important, allowing us to make changes and make sure we get things spot on before we proceed to the next stage. In case you didn’t know, Alyssa is a perfectionist and nothing passes by her without every millimetre being inspected, but when you're working in such miniature have to be a perfectionist!

It is also important to note that designs are ALWAYS produced with the accompaniment of snacks, and also usually wine! We really don’t have a set place or routine to come up with our new designs, but involving food always makes things way more fun- and after reading a recent news article, apparently a few glasses of wine ‘loosens you up’ creatively, so it’s no surprise most of our excellent brain waves and designs involve wine. Now, whoever wrote that article is probably trying to kid themselves that wine is good for you, but in this instance, we definitely agree!

Next steps- After design is decided upon, sizes are worked out and we are generally happy bunnies with a new design, the long and painful process of computer aided design takes up a lot of time during the design stage of our jewellery. It's important we get every angle of our new design correct.

When the piece is a 3d engineered item, the final thing won't look perfect unless it’s perfect from every single angle.... So at this stage, we will move areas of the design, around slightly, or change an angle of something- sometimes even by less than a millimetre… even if it's just by a fraction, it still needs to be perfect!!
In this image you can see how the space between the wheels has been moved a FEW millimetres closer together... this is just one of the changes we will make at this stage before progressing with the design any further!
Once Alyssa is happy with every last detail of the computer generated design images, from every single angle... and has looked at it, compared it with sketches and other important bits & bobs.... the design is taken to the next stage!!

How to make it wearable! This may sound straight forward, but there is a lot to thin about at this stage! …Where will it suspend from!? …Where will an earring back be soldered on… How will it hang to make it look the best it possibly can? …If it’s a charm, we need to make sure it’s suspended in a way that the dangling bits won’t catch on things too! This stage is where the finer details are applied before translating it into a metal 'master'.

Of course, how exactly that is done will remain in our Secrets Box, at the top of our Top Secret Shelf, which is locked with a Top Secret key!

What’s next!? Do we just twiddle our thumbs and wait!?
Hehe, NO! Now the master has been made- we will use this to create the jewellery from... but in solid sterling silver! We make our jewellery in small batches, so you will often see things sell out, or items on ‘pre order’, where you can order something and wait to have it delivered when the next batch is finished… Once the jewellery is finished being made, it has to have a final polish, pass through our quality control, and let’s not forget that lots of our pieces are also hallmarked too.

We take such pride in absolutely everything we make, right from the concept stage, to the actual manufacture, and even packaging the jewellery up when it leaves our workshop is important to us! All of our jewellery collections have their own packaging and mini information cards… and let’s not forget the sparkling extras we pop into your parcels and yummy sweets!
We hope you have loved seeing the designs come to life, and if you own our jewellery already.... you will have another bit of the story to add to your you know exactly how it's made! YAY! If you’re yet to own some of our jewellery, then hopefully this will be something you can look forward to in the future! Each piece of ASJ is made, and packaged with love and sparkles!!

What even IS a push present?

We don’t often get time to blog, because we’re all such busy bees at #teamalyssa, floating around talking to our customers, packaging up lovely orders, working on new designs and sitting at the work bench creating- but we wanted to take a little minute to draw your attention to the recent craze of ‘push presents’ which we have found ourselves getting on board with more and more over the past few months… you may have seen this phrase floating around online amongst new mums, mums to be and couples who are expecting! So we wanted to get involved in our own sparkling way and enlighten our customers!
Question- What even IS a ‘push present’?
Some of you are probably thinking “what is a push present?”- that just sounds so bizarre!
But in a nutshell, a push present is basically a special gift that a father/birthing partner gives to the mother to mark the occasion of her giving birth – but friends and families also give push presents too!
The present may be given to the mother before, after or during (eeek!) the birth of a new baby. Amazing idea right?!... We knew you would agree!

Popular Push Present Ideas
Push presents may have started off as an American tradition, but in recent years they have become more and more popular right here in the UK. Traditionally, the push present would be a ‘keepsake’ as an expression of love and devotion… However, we have been searching the big world wide web for push present ideas, and the following items are found to be popular ideas:
  • Make-up/perfumes
  • Nappy cakes (yes, you heard right!) These are basically lots of goodies stacked up into the shape of a cake and wrapped in pretty cellophane and ribbons
  • House items i.e. a coffee machine (for all the late nights and early mornings ahead of you!)
  • Spa breaks (because we all need some time to ourselves, don’t we!)
  • Clothes/handbags
  • Jewellery (Of course! We may have mentioned this last, but it’s certainly not the last idea you should think of!)
The reason we’ve been so interested in the idea of push presents is because so many of our customers have been coming to us over the past years asking for ‘new mum’ gifts. Either the new mum has been getting in touch herself, her spouse, birthing partner, friend, sister and aunty…the list goes on really! It only seems right that we start taking an interest in creating pieces which could be the perfect gift for a new mummy, huh?!
We have several gorgeous pieces in our online collections, which are ready to order for fast delivery (basically, you won’t have to wait 9 months for this!) and they won’t break the bank either- we know how expensive a new baby can be!

Push Present Ideas from #teamalyssa
We sell a wide variety of push present ideas on our website in our ‘new mums’ collection that would be the perfect keepsake idea; but here are our top 5 pieces:
Mummy and Baby Angel Feather Necklace – This gorgeous piece is available either in sterling silver, or in rose gold plated silver. We love both of them! If you wanted to add another feather or two (wink wink!) we can also do this for you upon request at an additional price… Perfect for an expanding family!

Guardian Angel Sterling Silver Pendant- This necklace is perfect as a symbol of protection for your new family. It is believed that we each have our own guardian angel to look over us, and this is a lovely thought to wear on your person every day.
Twink Cluster Necklace- We have chosen this necklace because it has three lovely silver stars hanging together from the same chain- which could symbolise the new parents and the new baby too. But if your family isn’t symbolised by three stars, don’t worry- we can tailor this necklace for as many or as fewer stars as you’d like- you could even have 6 or 8 stars hanging together on the chain! If this is something you’d like to find out more about, then do get in touch with us and we will be more than happy to tailor this necklace to create your family portrait!

From Little Acorns Silver Necklace- This is one of our favourite necklaces of all time, and not just for new mums either! Mighty oaks from little acorns grow. This is so true and can be applied to all aspects of life!

Mini Infinity Necklace- This is a beautiful necklace of ours, simple but so lovely to wear every day. As most of you will know, ‘infinity’ means forever, so is a lovely symbolic gift for a new mum from a loving partner.

If these gorgeous pieces do not appeal to you (for some bizarre reason) or you feel that you’d like something extra special and personal- perhaps with the babies birth stone set into it somewhere… then you could always ask us to make your lovely ideas and designs through our bespoke service! This is where we would create exactly what you had in mind, especially for you!

What isn't there to LOVE?!
Do let us know if you need any help choosing a gorgeous piece, or would like us to make you something unique, and have a great day!
Whatever you do and wherever you go, don’t forget to sparkle!
#TeamAlyssa xoxo

Love of F1

It was in 2010 that I first met Alyssa. While employed at a well known low cost airline (who are known for their orange colours), I saw a young girl one in the building lunchtime with a stand trying to sell some jewellery in the canteen.

I still remember seeing a picture of Suzi Perry on that stand, wearing one of Alyssa’s pieces & recall one of my colleagues at the time not knowing who Suzi Perry was (someone who wasn’t a viewer of MotoGP or The Gadget Show at the time) which lead me to try and explain who she is.

I never really spoke to Alyssa in depth though, but being a twitter user, later that day I did tweet Suzi Perry to say that I had met someone who designed jewellery for her. I’m now glad I sent that tweet, if it wasn’t for that, Alyssa would never have seen and responded to me through twitter and we wouldn’t have become friends over the last 5 and a half years.

The biggest thing I’ve seen with my friendship with Alyssa in that time is how she has built up her business and brand and, with the introduction of the Smith&Perry motorsport collection over the last few years, all the work that Alyssa & Suzi have done for the Promise Dreams charity through this collection.

This takes me back to when I was a young boy. My first memories of Formula 1 are the name Ayrton Senna. I was only 4 years old in 1988 when Senna won his first World Championship, so I do not remember much about the races in that period, or indeed, through his career. The two things that always stick in my mind from seeing races at that time are hearing Murray Walker saying the name during his commentary and seeing the famous yellow helmet in the white and red Marlboro sponsored McLaren. He instantly become my sporting hero, and I will always hold the Brazilian in high regard as one of my icons.

I can easily recall watching races from the mid 90s, always being excited when the Monaco GP came around every year, and I can remember some specific races from that era. For example the 1994 Spanish GP when Michael Schumacher was stuck in 5th gear in his Benetton, being awake really early to watch the end of season flyaways in Japan & Australia in 1994/1995 too, as well as the 1995 British GP when Damon Hill and Michael Schumacher collided again.

Formula 1 is the reason I went into Engineering, and studying Aerospace Engineering at university. Harbouring thoughts of being the next Adrian Newey! Being quite technically minded from a young age, I always enjoy the technical aspects of Formula 1 and have done so for 25+ years I’ve been watching and following the sport. I’m working in aviation at the moment, but do still harbour those dreams of one day working in the sport I love.

As the years have gone on, I have immersed myself more in the world of Formula 1. Reading and understanding the history, of those drivers long gone and the cars they raced, names like Jim Clark, Jochen Rindt & Francois Cervert. Wishing I could have seen these drivers race, in some of those iconic Team Lotus & Tyrrell cars of the day, which were magnificent machines with groundbreaking engineering from the likes of Colin Chapman.

Now it is a different era. Since the 90s I’ve always had a fondness for Ferrari. There is just something so iconic about the brand, and the history of how Enzo Ferrari founded the company and went racing, with so many beautiful cars bearing the famous prancing horse. So much so that yes, I have made the pilgrimage to Maranello and visited the museum. This lead to me becoming a fan of Michael Schumacher during the late 90s and early 2000s, seeing him breaking all sorts of records in an utterly dominant era with Ferrari was watching something special.

I have become more and more neutral the older I have become. Not just to teams, but to drivers. No matter who is racing, I have utmost respect for all those drivers and all those teams that go racing. Whereas I do recall the 2001 Spanish Grand Prix, when Mika Hakkinen with such a massive lead going into the final lap before his clutch failed giving Michael Schumacher the win, I leapt up and cheered at my drivers’ main rival not finishing the race! Now when I watch races, it’s much more of an immersive experience. Watching on TV, while following live timing and team radio and keeping an eye on twitter at the same time to live tweet and post about the race as it happens. It’s always interesting to see a race using all this technology and to spot things which may not be seen on TV.

In recent years, the use of social media has provided me with some amazing opportunities within the Formula 1 and motorsport world. Through twitter this has meant being able to interact with many of the TV & radio presenters over the last few years during Formula 1 coverage and it is always an honour whenever I do get a mention during practice coverage. That all started while being out of work, and spending my time tweeting in while I was unemployed & spending race weekends watching F1 practice sessions. As the years have gone on and with my regular tweeting, it has been nice to have been able to meet many of the media, some of which actually recognise me now!, and for them to take the time to continue to read out my comments or ask my questions. I hope that with my years of watching F1 and the technical knowledge I have gained over the years of watching the sport (as well as with my experience as an engineer), I have been able to provide interesting topics of discussion during Friday practice sessions.

That is only part of what I have been able to do within the F1 world in the last 5 years or so. Through twitter I was part of a fan panel in F1 Racing Magazine in 2011 to debate the future of the TV coverage in the UK when it was announced Sky had acquired rights to the sport. I was also able to attend a special screening of the Senna movie in 2011 which was attended by a number of prominent Formula 1 people, including the late Professor Sid Watkins, and also to attend a number of fan forums, including one at Williams.

One of my highlights was in 2014, being in the audience of Sky Sports F1 Show. It was the first show after the Monaco Grand Prix, where the late Jules Bianchi scored Marussia’s first (& only) points finish. Not only was it great to see Jules in the studio and hear him talk about that race, but it was also quite surreal for me. On turning up at the Sky studios, I was greeted with a gift from Ted Kravitz, a Sky Sports “Ted’s Notebook” with a note inside from Ted thanking me for the tweets and to keep them up. On leaving the studio after the show, I managed to get a photo with Jules as he was leaving too, he was kind enough to stop for me, and I was able to congratulate him on his points finish and wish him good luck for the rest of the season.

Social media and twitter especially, has opened so many of opportunities within the Formula 1 world and other forms of motorsport. Being able to discuss the sport I love with fans from all over the world, as well as becoming somewhat known and recognised by people within the paddock itself, especially through attending events like the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which has lead to me being able to meet so many of my sporting heroes too.

It was also through twitter that I was able to win a competition last year run by Aston Martin Racing to have my twitter handle on one of their V8 Vantage GTE AM cars during the Le Mans 24 Hours and to be given an opportunity by Prodrive to take possession of the crash damaged front wing of that very car which bore my name! (which is currently being kept in storage while I try to decide the best way to display this)

It was also through social media that Alyssa contacted me one day back in 2013, asking for my help and to tap into my knowledge for Formula 1. I was being asked about track layouts & helping to make sure that the tracks Alyssa had produced for her designs were accurate and recognizable to motorsport lovers! That’s when I first heard about the Smith&Perry collection, long before its launch. It has been an honour to have played my small part in helping with this collection since its inception through my knowledge of Formula 1 and all the good work this has lead for the Promise Dreams charity.

Even after 3 years I still get the all sorts of requests for help and advice from Alyssa, and running new designs by me to make sure they look right to a motorsports lover, or picking my brain for any new ideas I can assist with. Seeing the collection grow from a handful of race tracks into 3D helmets and race cars has been great.

I know a few things about what’s coming up in the Smith&Perry collection, but I’m sworn to secrecy! I’m sure motorsport fans will love all the new introductions and I’m glad to have played my small part in helping out.

My thanks go to Alyssa, not only for being a good friend, but for also giving me the chance to put all that F1 knowledge in my head to good use, and also to Suzi Perry, who indirectly brought us together!

As for Formula 1, I’ll keep holding on to that dream of mine and keep tweeting away about the sport I feel so passionate about as well as posting many of my musings on my blog, and no doubt you’ll see me around at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Autosport International, or Silverstone armed with a camera snapping away at cars too.
